Croydon Camogie Club World Record Attempt

Croydon girls set for their next big event.......a 30 hour game of camogie!

We at Croydon Camogie Club are always up for a challenge. Not content with the achievement of bringing a group of 35 to Dubai in January '08 for the Dubai Celts Sevens, we've now set our sights on securing a World Record, and hopefully, a place in the Guinness World Records 2010 publication!

At 10.00 am on Saturday August 23rd at the Emerald GAA Grounds in Ruislip, the Croydon girls will take to the field, with 30 hours of camogie ahead of us. Playing right through the night, with no more than 5 minute breaks after every hour of playing, the marathon will end at 4.00 pm on Sunday August 24th.

Donations from this event will be made to Cancer Research UK and the Marie Keating Foundation.

About Croydon Camogie Club

Croydon Camogie Club is the oldest surviving club in London and was formed in 1986.

Our members range in age from 16 to 40 (though we have one or two more "senior" players as well!). Most are Irish born, or 2nd/3rd generation Irish, but we do have a few players with absolutely no Irish connections. We also have players of all abilities, from All-Stars to complete beginners - all are welcome!

The playing season starts in March, and runs until November. Training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Poulter, Park, Mitcham, and we usually have a game (or games) on Sundays. The nearest overground station or tram stop is Mitcham Junction (trains direct from Victoria). Lifts can also be arranged from East/West Croydon stations or Colliers Wood on the Northern Line.

The social side of the club is equally as important as the competitive side. After games, we make a point of going out together as a club, and the craic is always fairly good!!! Many friendships are formed through the club, often becoming lifelong ones!
